TCM has always played a special and important role in the prevention and treatment of major epidemic situations and medical treatment of public emergencies.  The published report not only affirms the value of TCM, but also recommends that WHO encourage its member States to consider the possibility of using TCM to treat COVID-19 within their healthcare systems and regulatory frameworks.  

As a matter of fact, China has been taking steps to contribute its traditional Chinese medicine to the international fight against COVID-19.  Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine has actively encouraged TCM to participate in global epidemic prevention and control, and shared TCM experience with the international community. According to incomplete statistics, more than 110 video exchanges and live broadcasts have been held by TCM experts so far, introducing TCM diagnosis and treatment plans to more than 150 countries and regions.  TCM products have been provided to more than 10 countries and regions in need, and TCM experts have been sent to 29 countries and regions to help guide the fight against COVID-19.  

It is reported that a delegation from the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine visited the WHO headquarters not long ago to present an Evidence-based Evaluation Report on THE Treatment of COVID-19 by TRADITIONAL Chinese Medicine to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and promote the convening of the WHO Expert Evaluation Meeting on the Treatment of COVID-19 by Traditional Chinese Medicine.  The who Expert Review Report on COVID-19 on Traditional Chinese Medicine was held online from 28 February to 2 March, during which who international experts asked questions and answered questions one by one on the scientific reports of Chinese experts.  

An official of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine said that the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine will continue to optimize TCM diagnosis and treatment plans for COVID-19, scientifically explain the mechanism of TCM action, and is willing to share its plans and experience to assist other countries and regions to strengthen the role of traditional medicine in their health systems.
